Two slaughterhouses sealed for unhygienic practices in Kokernag,s Hangalgund
Kokernag Dec 17 : Revenue officials sealed two slaughterhouses in the Hangalgund area of Tehsil Kokernag after finding unhygienic slaughtering practices and improper disposal of animal waste into a nearby waterbody, authorities said, Dec. 17, 2025.
The action was taken under Section 152 of the BNSS after residents complained of a foul smell from the waterbody and raised concerns about public health risks caused by stray dogs feeding on dumped animal waste, officials said.
During inspections, officials found unsanitary conditions at both facilities, including animal waste scattered inside and dogs roaming freely within the slaughterhouses. Authorities said the conditions posed a serious threat to public health and safety.
Despite several notices issued earlier to the owners directing them to stop the practices and improve sanitation, officials said no corrective action was taken.
Considering the continued violations and potential health hazards, revenue officials seized and sealed both slaughterhouses, officials said through press Note.
