 Drug Peddler Sentenced to 10 Years Rigorous Imprisonment in Anantnag



Anantnag, Oct 27: (ANR) In a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking, the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge NDPS, Anantnag, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Khan, today pronounced sentence against the accused Bashir Ahmad Bhat S/O Gull Mohd Bhat R/O Waghama Bijbehara in case FIR No. 230/2021 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act of Police Station Bijbehara.


After hearing both sides on the quantum of punishment and considering all relevant circumstances, the Hon’ble Court has sentenced the accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000 (one lakh rupees).


 The case pertained to the recovery of 70 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of the accused, who was intercepted while traveling in his vehicle (Alto 800, Registration No. JK18A-1097) at Sangam on 19-08-2021.


The investigation of the case was conducted by SI Mohammad Qayoom, and upon completion of investigation, a charge sheet was produced before the Hon’ble Court. The prosecution of the case was ably conducted by Senior Prosecuting Officer, Arif Majeed Romshoo, leading to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.


 SSP Anantnag Sh Amritpal Singh-IPS has appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Investigating Officer SI Mohammad Qayoom 349/S and Senior Prosecuting Officer Arif Majeed Romshoo for their exemplary professionalism and effective coordination which ensured that the accused was brought to justice.
