Light Snowfall Likely in Higher Reaches of Kashmir; Advisory Issued for Travellers
SRINAGAR, Dec 18 : The Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT) has forecast a spell of generally cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with chances of light to moderate rain and snowfall, particularly in the higher reaches of the Kashmir division.
According to the MeT forecast, December 18 and 19 are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with the possibility of very light snowfall at isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.
Weather conditions are likely to turn more active from the late night of December 20 through December 21. During this period, generally cloudy skies are expected, with light to moderate snowfall over the higher reaches of the Kashmir division, while plains of Jammu and Kashmir may receive light to moderate rainfall at many places.
On December 22, Jammu and Kashmir region is expected to witness generally cloudy conditions with light rain or snowfall at scattered locations. From December 23 to December 29, weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy. Another brief spell of cloudy weather is forecast for December 30 and 31, with the possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches.
Advisory Issued
The MeT Centre has cautioned that a few higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts may receive moderate to heavy snowfall, particularly on December 21.
In view of the forecast, travellers and transporters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and strictly follow traffic and administrative advisories to avoid inconvenience. (ANR)
