Snowfall Alert: Traffic Likely to Be Affected on Sinthan, Margan Routes in Kokernag
Kokernag, Dec 20: In view of the forecast predicting possible snowfall in higher reaches, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag has issued a weather and traffic advisory in the interest of public safety.
According to the advisory, vehicular movement on the Daksum–Sinthan Top–Chhatrroo Road and the Gowran–Margan Top–Warwan Road is likely to be affected due to snowfall, icy road conditions, and reduced visibility.
The general public has been advised to avoid non-essential travel on these routes during snowfall and immediately thereafter. Authorities have clarified that travel will be permitted only after official confirmation of road clearance by the concerned road clearance agencies and the administration.
The advisory further directs that all vehicles plying on these routes must carry anti-skid devices or snow chains along with other essential winter safety equipment.
Under traffic regulation and enforcement measures, police have been instructed to immediately close the roads for vehicular movement if snowfall renders them unsafe. Traffic will resume only after clearance reports from NHIDCL for the Sinthan route and PMGSY for the Margan route confirm that the roads are safe.
The administration has also appealed to road users to strictly comply with official directions to facilitate smooth snow clearance operations and ensure uninterrupted movement of emergency services.
