Daksum–Sinthan Top–Chhatroo Road (NH-244) Reopens for Limited Hours After SDM Kokernag Reviews Snow Clearance at Sinthan Top

Traffic allowed from 10 AM to 2 PM as authorities step up de-icing measures to ensure commuter safety

Kokernag, Dec 26: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag, Prince Kumar, IAS, accompanied by the Tehsildar Larnoo, conducted an on-site inspection of the Daksum–Sinthan Top–Chhatroo Road (NH-244) to assess the status of snow clearance and review winter preparedness along the vital mountainous stretch.

During the inspection, the SDM evaluated road conditions at vulnerable points, reviewed the deployment of machinery and manpower, and interacted with personnel stationed at Daksum Naka to assess on-ground arrangements for traffic regulation. Special attention was given to shadow-prone locations where the risk of frosting and slippery surfaces remains high during winter.

The SDM directed the concerned agencies to ensure that no icy patches develop at such locations and instructed the regular spraying of urea, salt, or other suitable de-icing materials to prevent ice formation and ensure safe vehicular movement.

Following the inspection and completion of snow clearance operations, the administration announced that the Daksum–Sinthan Top–Chhatroo Road (NH-244) has been opened for vehicular traffic from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, subject to prevailing weather and road conditions.

Meanwhile, commuters have been advised to exercise utmost caution and strictly adhere to the instructions issued by the Traffic Police and field staff. Authorities stated that further regulation of traffic will be undertaken based on weather conditions and continuous safety assessments. (ANR)
