Trekking, Camping Banned in High-Altitude Areas of Kokernag for Two Months

Kokernag, Jan 2 : In view of security concerns and public safety, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag has imposed a complete ban on trekking, camping, hiking, and similar outdoor activities in certain high-altitude and forested areas of the subdivision.

According to an official order issued by SDM Kokernag Prince Kumar (IAS), the prohibition applies to Margan Top, Chauhar Nag, and Sinthan Top, with immediate effect. The decision follows inputs from police and security agencies highlighting potential threats in these sensitive areas.

The order notes that recent incidents involving attempts to cross police naka and check-points during late night hours have raised serious concerns regarding public safety and security. Unrestricted movement in these regions, the administration said, could adversely affect law and order.

Under the directive issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the Station House Officer (SHO) Larnoo has been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the order and regulate movement at all check-points.

The general public has been advised to strictly comply with the restrictions, warning that any violation will invite legal action as per law.

The ban will remain in force for a period of two months from the date of issuance, unless withdrawn earlier or extended by the competent authority. (ANR)
