Authorities Restrict Tourist Movement in Kokernag Amid Adverse Weather Alert
SDM Kokernag bans tourist travel beyond Bidhard and suspends trekking to Sinthan Top, Choharnag, Fambar Valley, and Margantop until further orders due to heavy rainfall and landslide risk.
Kokernag, July 19: In view of the forecast of adverse weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kokernag, has imposed restrictions on tourist movement in the upper reaches of the subdivision to ensure public safety.
According to an advisory issued on Saturday, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall and inclement weather over the coming days, raising the possibility of landslides, shooting stones, flash floods, and other natural hazards.
The order states that tourists will not be allowed to travel beyond Bidhard until further orders. Trekking activities to Sinthan Top, Choharnag, Fambar Valley, and Margantop have also been completely suspended.
The SDM directed the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) to enforce the restrictions by establishing necessary checkpoints and preventing tourist movement beyond the designated point. The advisory warns that any violation of the order will invite action under the relevant provisions of law.
The administration has appealed to tourists and the general public to cooperate with the authorities and avoid travelling to vulnerable areas until weather conditions improve and the restrictions are lifted.
