Heavy Rain Warning for Kashmir: Anantnag Administration Issues Safety Advisory
Pahalgam, Daksum, Kokernag, Larnoo, Sinthan Top, and adjoining upper reaches of Anantnag district identified as particularly vulnerable areas.
Anantnag, July 18: The District Administration Anantnag has issued a weather advisory following a forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall across Kashmir Valley from July 19 to July 23, 2026.
According to the advisory, the peak rainfall activity is expected between July 21 and July 23, raising the risk of flash floods, waterlogging, landslides, mudslides, shooting stones, overflowing rivers and streams, and disruption of essential services.
The administration has identified Pahalgam, Daksum, Kokernag, Larnoo, Sinthan Top, and adjoining upper reaches of Anantnag district as particularly vulnerable areas.
Residents and visitors have been urged to exercise utmost caution and follow safety measures, including avoiding unnecessary travel to hilly and landslide-prone areas, staying away from rivers, streams and other water bodies, and refraining from trekking, camping and other outdoor activities in vulnerable locations.
People have also been advised to follow weather updates issued by the IMD and the District Administration and immediately report incidents such as flooding, landslides, road blockages, fallen trees, damaged power lines, or any other emergency to the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) or the nearest police station.
