Cloudburst in Pahalgam Disrupts Drinking Water Supply to Anantnag, Nearby Areas
Anantnag, July 12: Drinking water supply across Anantnag town and several adjoining rural areas is likely to be affected after a cloudburst in the Pahalgam area caused a sharp rise in turbidity levels in the Lidder Nallah.
According to the Jal Shakti Department, PHE Division Bijbehara, the discharge from Lidder Nallah has become extremely turbid, exceeding the treatment capacity of the filtration plants. As a precautionary measure, the raw water supply to the Bumzoo filtration units has been temporarily suspended until the quality of the source water improves.
Officials said the temporary shutdown may impact the regular supply of potable water to consumers in Anantnag town and surrounding villages.
The department has appealed to the public to use the available water judiciously and avoid unnecessary wastage during the disruption. Water supply will be restored once the turbidity levels return to normal and treatment operations resume safely.
The advisory has been issued by the Jal Shakti Department, PHE Division Bijbehara, in the interest of public safety.
