J&K to Witness Hot, Humid Weather Till July 17; Heavy Rain, Flash Flood Risk From July 18: MeT
Srinagar, July 13: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally hot and humid weather across Jammu and Kashmir till July 17, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers expected at scattered places. Isolated areas of the Jammu division may experience brief intense showers during this period.
According to the MeT Department, weather conditions are likely to change from July 18 onward. Between July 18 and 19, the JK is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Isolated areas of the Jammu division may witness brief intense heavy showers.
From July 20 to 22, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir. The department has warned that isolated areas in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions could receive heavy rainfall or brief intense heavy showers.
The MeT Centre has issued an advisory warning of the possibility of heavy rainfall and brief intense showers during the late night of July 18, the morning of July 19, and again between July 20 and 22, particularly during the late afternoon and early morning hours.
The department has also cautioned that flash floods, landslides, and mudslides may occur at vulnerable locations in the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Range during July 18–19 and July 20–22.
Residents and travellers have been advised to stay away from nallas, streams, and landslide- or mudslide-prone areas during the forecast period and to follow official weather updates and advisories.
